Online Photo Sharing responsible for up to 5% of all Internet traffic

I saw this interesting article about online photo sharing and other
forms of “user generated content” on the Internet. These sites are
often referred to as “Web 2.0″ or “social networking” sites. These
sites allow users to upload photos, videos and other content.

In September there was actually a decline in visits to these sites, but
they quickly did a rebound and this month account for over 5% of all
Internet use.

I really like these kinds of sites and recommend that you sign up for an
online photo sharing site and try it out. It’s a great way to save
extra copies of your photos as a backup and it’s fun to make online
photo albums for friends and family to see.

Many sites also allow you to upload video from your digital video
camera. I have found one site in particular that allows you to do both
video and photos. It’s been a lot of fun to play around with this site
and post pictures of my grandkids and dogs.

Taking Candid Pictures

So many people are buying digital cameras these days and making it so easy to take photographs. Some pictures people take are posed and not really showing the mood, or personality of the subject. Professional photographers use special lighting, props, and pose their subjects. So how does the ordinary person capture a subjects true personality and emotions.

Christine Peppler says in this online photography article: “Some shots don’t require posing. Many of the most meaningful shots are taken as subjects interact or are engaged in an activity. From images of children at play, a spouse reading the morning paper, a parent and child talking, or grandma gardening these are the moments that reflect the true personality of subjects.”

Remember to keep a distance from your subject by using the digital camera’s zoom lens so you don’t interrupt the activity or mood of the subject. One of my favorite pictures is of my youngest son fishing. He had no idea I was taking his picture. You could see the deep concentration on his face in the photo. You can also play with lighting effects. You can take pictures inside and also try outside. When taking pictures outside you have many variations from morning light to early evening light, but be aware of shadows.

You can take pictures of your grandchildren at play or sitting with their dog, grandpa reading the newspaper, or drinking a cup of coffee. To get a great candid shot don’t let them know your taking their picture. I love taking candid photos of my grandsons. I personally love candid photos rather then posed photots. Let your imagination go to capture your family and friends at special meaningful moments.

Photography of Fall Colors

Anytime is a great time to get outdoors and photograph spectacular scenery, but Autumn with all the fall colors is awesome. Colors range from shades of red, yellow brown and a full spectrum of color.

New England is the most extraordinary state for fall color, but New York, Pennsyvnia, and Ohio are fantastic, as well. It doesn’t matter where you go to take your photos the best place is what is most easiest to get to. You can even come back to the same spot at different times of day. Try morning, afternoon, and evening to get different lighting effects.

“Once again, it really doesn’t matter what kind of lighting you encounter. Each type of lighting offers different opportunities. If it’s sunny, you get the benefit of blue sky and strong light and shadow. There is a wide range of different types of filters to use to enhance colors, and lighting. You can take portraits with the fall colors as background. You can use shadows and the fog to make your pictures more interesting.

Sharing Baby Photos

All babies are precious and innocent looking! That is why parents can’t take enough pictures. There are so many special moments like just home from hospital, baby crawling, babies first tooth, babies first step, babies 1st Birthday, and it goes on and on. Everything the baby does is worth taking a picture, and with a digital camera it is so easy.

Then there are baby photo contests. Some parents enter them thinking they will win a prize, but most parents just want the prestige of saying their baby won.
